The usual story on a shared server goes like this: one customer's outdated plugin lets a web shell in, the shell spreads to neighboring accounts, and a few hours later the machine's IP shows up on spam blocklists. Third, how you intend to schedule scans: a full filesystem scan costs disk I/O and CPU, so on busy machines it is worth moving scans to off-peak hours and staying in quarantine mode for the first few days instead of enabling automatic cleanup, since encrypted theme files and hand-written code can look suspicious and produce false positives. Do I receive a key file with my CPGuard license?
No. The license is tied to your server's IP address. There is no serial number or key file to keep — the install script sees the server's outbound IP and matches the license itself.
I'm migrating the server and the IP will change. What do I do?
Update the license's IP field in the panel. The change takes effect straight away: the license stops working on the old address at that moment and starts on the new one. No ticket, no waiting for business hours, and the same change can be made through the REST API.
I already run a firewall. What does CPGuard add?
A firewall works at the network layer: it blocks connections based on where they come from and how they behave, but it cannot see a malicious PHP file that is already sitting inside a hosting account. CPGuard's file scanning closes exactly that gap by finding the payload on disk, before anything executes it. The two layers complement each other rather than replace each other.
What happens if a clean file is flagged as malicious?
Any signature-based scan produces false positives sooner or later; encrypted theme files and hand-written snippets are the usual suspects. That is why quarantine mode is a better starting point than automatic cleanup: quarantine makes the file inaccessible instead of deleting it, so you can put it back. Watch the reports for a few days, add the directories you trust to the exclusion list, and switch cleanup to automatic once it is running quietly.
