LiteSpeed Web Server replaces Apache without asking you to rebuild your configuration: it reads Apache config files and .htaccess rules, so redirects and access rules carry over. Its event-driven design serves concurrent connections on less memory and CPU, which is exactly the pressure you feel when a shared box is full of WordPress sites. LSCache, the server-side page cache it ships with, answers dynamic requests from cache instead of re-running PHP on every hit. It pays off most for hosting companies fighting load on shared servers, and for admins running one busy site on a single VPS.
The license is bound to the server's IP address, so there is no key file to copy or keep safe: installation is a single command, and the script finds the license from the IP. Rebuild the machine or move it to another provider and you change the IP yourself in the panel — no support ticket in between, and the previous address stops immediately. Orders are settled against your prepaid balance with no approval step, so a license is usually usable within a minute. If you run more than a handful of servers, the REST API is where the difference shows: create, renew, suspend and re-IP licenses from your own build script or from WHMCS, so a new server licenses itself while it provisions. Tiers are defined by CPU cores: 1, 2, 4 and 8 cores, plus an edition with no core limit. The tier has to cover the cores the operating system reports, and running nproc before you order takes a second. Moving to a machine with more cores is therefore not just an IP change — you need the higher tier as well. LSCache only helps if the matching cache plugin is installed and enabled on the site side; swapping the web server and leaving caching off will not give you the difference you were expecting. Which core tier do I need?
Match the number of cores the operating system reports — nproc is the quickest check, and on a VPS it is the vCPU count allocated to you. If you are between tiers, going one up costs less trouble than moving up a tier later, once the server is busy.
Will my .htaccess rules survive the switch?
LiteSpeed is built to read Apache configuration and .htaccess, so in most setups the rules keep working. Even so, test redirects, access restrictions and anything hand-written right after the move.
I'm upgrading to a bigger server. What do I change?
Change the IP in the panel and the old address stops immediately. Then check the core count: if the new machine has more cores than your tier covers, you need to move up a tier too; if the count is unchanged, the IP change is all there is to it.
Can I stop a monthly license?
Turn auto-renewal off in the panel. The license keeps working until the paid period ends and then simply stops. No contract, no cancellation fee.
